by gawd, I love my hobbies...

Why on earth I didn't start doing this back when I was 18, I'll never know... Oh wait, it was because I was flat broke, just off the farm and only had a Kodak Disc camera... ;-)

This photograph is from a shoot that I did last night, at Spectrum Studios... a photography studio in Toronto that offers workshops as well as monthly shoots where they take care of everything organizational... just bring your camera gear. So instead of you spending weeks trying to find marginal amateur 'models' to photograph, and trusting them to do their own makeup, and actually showing up, you can jump right in and photograph to your heart's content... well, within the parameters of the time restraints as you ARE shooting with up to five other photogs. Price isn't bad... four hours for about $150.00 CDN, two models, three looks each. I ended up with about 400 images, of which this is arguably the best.

One of the fringe benefits is when you start shooting, it is outside, along the street leading into the Don Valley Parkway off Queen Street. It is vastly amusing to see the double-takes, almost-traffic-accidents, and general pedestrian oogling. My gawd people, haven't you ever seen a photo-shoot before? ;-)

I'm hopefully going to be shooting on a more-regular basis, outside of a studio... I've spend some considerable time scoping out suitable outdoor locations, and I have a few models lined up that want to work on their porfolio content.

It's shaping up to be a great spring. :-)

There's not much to do in Hamilton, ON...

... but there is the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

I was bored today on my last heavenly day off from work... and so in the morning, I took my dive gear out to Oshawa to be serviced (my dive shop being out there means that they are about 40% cheaper than Toronto).

On the drive back, I thought wth, I'll just take the 403 out to Hamilton and stop in and see the warplane museum; a stop I had been meaning to make for some time. Hey, who ever goes to Hamilton on _purpose_? ;) I mean, it's where Sheila Copps lives...

Lovely museum though. I highly recommend it. In addtion to a number of fairly pedestrian warbids like the Starfighter and ubiquitous Spitfire and Hurricane, they have an Avro Lancaster bomber. In flying condition.

In all the world, there is only two of those, and one of them is only an hours' drive down the road. Go for road-trip at some point, eh? ;)

Jennie is just a real trooper... pro model all the way.

The wind was blowing in off the lake... maybe 3 or 4 celius with the windchill. Thank god I'm the photographer... I hate the freakin' cold... ;)

And now that spring is here...

...it is bloody well past time to get the camera out more often. Or, this whole 'work' thing keeps getting in the way of my life. ;)

In all serious though, the good thing about Quarter End Hell (March flavour) is that you wake up in April, and are amazed that winter has dissapeared without you noticing. This is a Very Good Thing™.

Now that the weather is nice (ok, at least NOT horrid), it is time to find someone that wants to get their picture taken. A lot.
Weekend model shoots are all well and good (I have one scheduled for Sunday), but what I really need at this point is a muse... someone to photograph over an extended period of time, and running the whole gamut of photography. Portrait, Glamour, Outdoor, Indoor, Artistic Nudes, Pin-Up, Themes. I need to push the photography skills and I think that having a single subject would help to force me to do that.
So far, three possibles have applied... we'll see if there are any more by the end of the week. :-)

Off to try and salvage the day... two hour con-call in the AM for something not remotely applicable to my job, attendence manditory. :-\ Cry havok and let slip the dogs of Marketing... *sob*
